The Equine Factor: Harnessing Horsepower for the Confederate War Effort:
This topic focuses on the role that equines (horses and mules) played in the Confederacy. It provides critical insight into the South’s management of equines, the South’s horse culture, the necessity for equines in various military and economic roles, and the impact upon Southern logistics as the supply of equines dwindled. The topic examines the loss of equines, the failures and successes of Southern leadership in coping with equine management, and the enduring veneration of Southern cavalry heroes today. |
