James Turner, A Canadian Yankee in King Cotton’s Court
Mitch Pratt knew his great grandfather James Turner served in the civil war but did not know many details.  Having inherited an almost illegible notebook he sought to decipher it and tell James’ story. The notebook only covered 1864/65; Mitch reconstructed a history based on historical accounts of the Iowa Infantry and records stored at the National Archives.  We will hear in James’ own words what he thought of love, war and politics.

Mitch Pratt is a retired HR Manager who is actively engaged in his genealogy hobby.  Mitch has taught classes on how to use DNA testing for genealogy at LSU’s OLLI leisure learning program, local churches and historical societies.  He is currently President of the local chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution and a member of the Baton Rouge Civil War Roundtable.
