February Newsletter
Thanks to all that participated in the grand raffle and special thanks to the Spedale family for donating the items raffled. The symposium is coming up before you know it. April 27/28. Everyone needs to bring someone with them to help make it a financial success.
We can grow in numbers if everyone will make an effort to replace themselves each year. Just bring someone to a meeting. If I ask someone I don't know well "Do you have ask an interest in history," and they say yes or why I ask which part?, them I tell them I am a member of the BRCWRT and we have speakers on a different aspects of the civil war each month. If they have a positive response I invite them to come to a meeting. If they say they have no interest in history, I drop the subject. Keep it simple, we don't want everybody, just the ones with interest.
If you have books to donate to the raffle, bring them to a meeting.

National History Day is a national research contest in which students in grades 6 - 12 create historical projects based on an annual theme and compete for special awards, prizes, and – ultimately – the opportunity to represent their state at a National Contest event in Washington D.C. This contest continues to grow every year and relies on the help of volunteer judges. At least fifty volunteers are needed to serve as judges. Judges serve on teams of two. Judges may be college students, professionals, or retirees who are interested in history and education and are comfortable speaking with middle and high school age students.

I received a telephone call today at 12:45 pm from David White, the Program Chairman of the CWRT of Austin. He informed me that Ed Bearss fell in his home in Washington, D.C and injured himself. I understand that his injury is not serious, but he is not able to travel to Austin or New Orleans to speak to our Round Tables.
Unfortunately, I cannot secure a new speaker in 1.5 days for our scheduled meeting tomorrow, February 14th. Therefore, I have no alternative but to cancel the meeting in the absence of having a speaker.
