National History Day is a national research contest in which students in grades 6 - 12 create historical projects based on an annual theme and compete for special awards, prizes, and – ultimately – the opportunity to represent their state at a National Contest event in Washington D.C. This contest continues to grow every year and relies on the help of volunteer judges. At least fifty volunteers are needed to serve as judges. Judges serve on teams of two. Judges may be college students, professionals, or retirees who are interested in history and education and are comfortable speaking with middle and high school age students.
