The Civil War saw many great battles with both sides fighting for their respective causes. Perhaps the most widely known are Gettysburg, Shiloh and Vicksburg. However, in this presentation, guests will learn of a lesser known battle from the war that equaled those famous battles in ferocity and impact. Mark Hidlebaugh will guide guests in an exploration of the battle of Brice’s Crossroads while utilizing audio, video, and personal accounts from the soldiers themselves who experienced it.

Iowa native Mark Hidlebaugh has shared his knowledge of the life of the common soldier through participating in living history programs and giving presentations for more than 40 years. A lifelong student of the Civil War, his idea of a perfect vacation is visiting and studying Civil War battlefields with his wife, Shelby. He has also umpired Little League baseball and softball as well as volunteered his time coaching Special Olympics basketball.
Guests will also have a chance to examine authentically recreated gear these soldiers carried |
